Hi,

Currently, Jitterbit can only be installed on rpm-based systems. The message referring to Readme.Debian comes from the rpm command on Debian, not Jitterbit. I believe that alien is a utility on Debian that can be used to install non-deb packages (such as rpm) on Debian. See 'man alien' for information about how to use it.

Thanks, Emanuel.

I have installed alien.
convert and install rpm and other packages
Alien allows you to convert LSB, Red Hat, Stampede and Slackware Packages
into Debian packages, which can be installed with dpkg.
It can also generate packages of any of the other formats.
This is a tool only suitable for binary packages.

I gather from what you wrote that even if I 'install' jitterbit, it won't work. :(

The client is self contained in the rpm package so you should be able to convert it to a deb-package and install it. The server, however has to be installed with the install script that comes with the distribution and it does some setup for you and installs multiple rpm-packages. This article describes how to install the Jitterbit client on Ubuntu so you may be able to do the same thing, http://www.tonybibbs.com/article.php/Ji ... On-Kubuntu.

/Cheers

What should I know before moving from ubuntu to debian? I am currently using ubuntu and have been for about 4-5 months. I want to move onto something a bit more difficult and closer to a "true linux" as I hear it. But what are the things I should know? I know the common terminal commands and have done my fair share of trouble shooting on my ubuntu machine. Since it is debian based I figured it will be similar but anything special I should know?

I would go to a Linux-specific forum for this question. Since you are interested in Debian then the folks over at http://www.debian.org/ should be able to give you all the info you need.
